From my first King of the Hammers in 2011 to today, this innovation is been evident. Companies and teams have given their know-how, experience and technological evolution to the bottom to create ever more powerful, fast, agile and perfectly rideable prototypes in the desert and along the hard trails of Johnson Valley.
Let's get to know Jordan Pellegrino's car better
Last year, Jordan Pellegrino, Tony Pellegrino's youngest son, brought his new 800-horsepower 4-wheel independent prototype with portal boxes to the race. This year, from the experience gained with this car at the King of the Hammers 2019, Jordan, Tony and the whole Genright Off Road crew have made important updates to the vehicle, especially in the suspension, to make it even more performing.
This year, before qualifying, I decided to stop in Genright's pit to shoot Jordan's car and discover its secrets. In detail, it is a cutting edge Ultra4 Class Unlimited car designed by Triton Engineering and finished / assembled by GenRight Off Road in January 2019. Jordan Pellegrino's # 98 car has a 795 horsepower RHS Tall Block engine. The front and rear suspensions, one of the most interesting aspects, are independent with Fox Coil Over 3.0 "x14" IBP shock absorbers (with internal bypass) and Fox 2.5 "x 14" Coil Over rear shocks combined with 3.0 "x14” Fox Bypass. Very interesting are the portal box which, compared to all other types of IFS and IRS car, offer a ground clearance greater than 4.5".
